Multi-year Heartwater disease study on Antigua, Guadeloupe and Barbuda islands in the West Indies'

We captured more than 1100 cattle egrets with a net gun to study the invasive disease heartwater. Captured egrets were banded and dyed blue on Antigua, Red on Guadeloupe and yellow on Monserrate to track their movements around the Caribbean. We also captured many other birds of different species to determine if they were carrying tropical Bont ticks. We captured and counted ticks on hundreds of mongooses, and I completed the field work for my master's degree which evaluated the percentage of mongooses which would ingest a vaccine laden bait should it become necessary to vaccinate the population for rabies.
